My Tools: taking care of your mental health and preventing suicidal thoughts
This platform offers self-care tools to help take care of your mental health on the daily and prevent suicidal thoughts. It was developped by the Association québécoise de prévention du suicide in collaboration with the Centre d’expertise en technologie de l’information en santé mentale, dépendance et itinérance (CETI-SMDI).

Why use My Tools?
The My Tools platform was designed by multidisciplinary teams from clinical, scientific, and technological fields. The platform has been created with people’s experiences in mind and with the goal of being useful on a daily basis while still respecting best practices.
It includes self-care tools to:
Better understand yourself and take stock of your mental health
Take care of your mental health on a daily basis
Discover new ways to feel better
Prevent suicidal thoughts and receive support when they are present
The platform is for anyone aged 14 and older. Whether you have suicidal thoughts, are living with anxiety or depressive disorders, or you’re simply trying to take better care of yourself, My Tools is here to support you.
If you work in mental health, you can use My Tools to offer support to your clients between follow-ups. The platform can also provide extra information to use in follow-ups.
What can be found on My Tools?
On My Tools, it’s possible to create small steps straight from your landing page (when logged into the platform). These small steps are actions you can take throughout your day to improve your wellbeing, little by little.
You can create your small steps yourself or get some ideas from our list, which is inspired by the Getting better my way tool, and customize them according to your needs.
My journal is a space for you to write down how your day was or just include a picture to represent how you feel.
Writing in your journal regularly can help you better understand what helps you or what might bring on distress. It can also highlight the positive moments of your day. Finally, this tool can allow you to think about what can be put into place to take care of your mental health.
The self-assessment allows you to better understand yourself by taking stock of your mental health. It can give you useful pointers that can be shared with a healthcare professionnal. You can re-do it often to keep track of how things evolve over time.
The safety plan is a tool that can help protect you when you’re having suicidal thoughts. It contains steps to follow to reduce the intensity of suicidal thoughts and ensure your safety.
You can prepare and personnalize your plan when you’re feeling calm to plan for difficult moments. The safety plan is designed in accordance with best practices in suicide prevention.
This tool provides quotes that can help you feel better, comfort you, and inspire courage. These quotes can be small sources of hope on hand for when you need them.
The breathing exercise can help soothe your nervous system, calm you down, and help give you energy. It can be used to help while experiencing distress or as a preventative measure. This tool can be used every day.
